Going forward the forecast looks to be a bit too cool for any good runs. With overnight lows getting into the teens and single digits it will take a bit to get things unthawed in the woods. Unfortunately the forecast has temps in the upper 30's for our location. I don't think it will run well until the end of the week when we creep into the mid forties.
The reality though is that it is much better for it to be too cold then too warm. It's not going to take much warm weather to get the trees budding. In the lower Champlain valley this weekend the trees were already well into the process and the buds were breaking open.
I am am still very optimistic about the season, and think it may be one of our best. I hope to make another 3900 gallons and based on the current forecast, think that can happen.
Good luck to all the sugar makers reading this. The best thing you can do is keep your system tight right down to the end. Also thanks to everyone who has purchased this years maple syrup from us!!
