Once the season kicks in releaser 1 will be about ready to go. That means when it gets really busy the first big run, we will not have to worry about that section of woods. We also dialed in our new submersible releaser pump, and that was working great clearing the releaser with 26" of vacuum.
The next week looks like one of the coldest stretches we have had in a few years. It does not look like we will be tapping again for another 7-8 days. We do not tap when it is below 15-20 degrees so that we do not split the trees. One thing that every sugarmaker should be doing after a long, deep freeze is walk their wet and dry lines to make sure that the big pipes did not pull apart. When it gets that cold the pipe can really contract. Its a bummer to turn on the vacuum first day of a run and not have any because your pipes pulled apart over the cold winter. We will be walking all mainlines as soon as it gets a bit warmer.
